Invisalign, the latest innovation in orthodontic treatment, offers a unique approach to teeth straightening by eliminating metal wires and Invisalignbrackets. Your Temple, TX, dentist, Dr. Derek Winegar, can help you improve your smile with Invisalign.

Straighter teeth without wires

Sustained pressure is the basic principle behind any orthodontic treatment method. Constant pressure gradually realigns your teeth and corrects bite problems. Similar to how metal and ceramic braces use wires threaded through brackets to apply pressure to your teeth, the Invisalign system changes the position of your teeth using clear, removable aligner trays.

These trays are created from a digital 3D model of your mouth, allowing them to fit snugly over your upper and lower sets of teeth. At our Temple office, you will be given a series of trays, with each set needing to be worn for 20-to-22 hours per day for about two weeks. After two weeks, you'll set aside your current trays and open the next set in the series. Aligner trays continually exert gentle pressure on your teeth, with each set being specially designed to accomplish a specific goal in the straightening process.

Invisalign offers several benefits

Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign's aligner trays will not alter your appearance. In fact, given that the trays are clear, they end up being barely noticeable by others.

Additionally, you won't have any food restrictions. That's right—you can continue to eat popcorn or enjoy an ear of corn at a summer picnic, all while straightening your teeth at the same time! Once you finish eating, you'll simply rinse your aligners and put them back in your mouth.

Finally, while those with braces need to alter their oral hygiene routine and use special mouthguards when playing sports, if you choose Invisalign, these extra steps become unnecessary! When you're ready to floss or play sports, you'll simply remove your aligners before popping them back in after you're done with the activity at hand.

Invisalign TrayIf your misaligned teeth or bite problems affect your everyday life, whether from being embarrassed about the way you look or causing problems eating or speaking, you can benefit from orthodontic care. Invisalign is a subtle and effective way to improve your smile. Find out more about Invisalign with Dr. Derek Winegar at City Creek Dental in Temple, TX.

What is Invisalign?
Invisalign corrects any misalignment and bite issues just like traditional metal braces. However, this treatment uses a different approach to improve your smile. The Invisalign treatment uses clear plastic aligner trays which patients pop into place over their teeth and wear throughout the day. The trays, which are customized for each patient, place pressure on the teeth to slowly move them into new, straightened positions. Sometimes, Invisalign patients need tooth-colored bumps called attachments placed onto their teeth to help steer the teeth in the right direction.

How is Invisalign different from traditional braces?
Metal braces are permanently attached to the teeth during treatment and obvious to others since their color does not match the white of the teeth. Invisalign is clear and removable, two drastic differences from traditional metal braces. Rather than using special flossers or water picks to clean their teeth, Invisalign patients can simply remove their trays to perform their daily oral care routine. Issues like teeth decay can lengthen treatment times and this ease of use provided by Invisalign ensures clean, healthy teeth throughout the treatment.

If you think you can benefit from Invisalign, your dentist can help you decide if it is your best course of treatment. If you are approved, your dentist will take a 3D model of your mouth to send to Invisalign’s laboratories. There, technicians will customize your trays, the number of which vary from case to case, and will then send the completed treatment package back to your dentist’s office. After a quick lesson on inserting and removing the trays and how long you should wear each one before moving on to the next, you will begin your treatment.
